Hollywood Casino Joliet opened its replacement land-based property on 11 August 2025. PENN’s opening announcement describes a $185 million development replacing the riverboat operation that had occupied the Des Plaines River setting since 1992. The new address is 1401 Gateway Boulevard.
An arrival route with several destinations
The move gave the designers an opportunity to change how guests entered and navigated the property. JCJ Architecture identifies the Social Promenade as a central feature of its design. From this route, visitors can reach Sorellina by Giada, Boulevard Food & Drink Hall and the event centre, or proceed onto the gaming floor.
That arrangement is significant because it gives dining and events a legible place in the arrival sequence. The promenade functions as connective space, bringing several destinations into one navigable route rather than relying on the casino floor to be the sole organizing interior.
Specific food and event programmes supported the plan
PENN’s opening statement named Giada De Laurentiis behind Sorellina and McClain Camarota Hospitality, founded by Shawn McClain, as the operator of Boulevard. The food hall’s opening lineup included Stephanie Izard’s Lucky Goat, Antique Taco and Pretty Cool Ice Cream. The announcement also described an outdoor patio and fire feature.
Both the operator and architect identify a 10,000-square-foot event centre. The operator described a customizable layout for meetings, celebrations and performances, with access for all ages. Those details explain why a separate, easy-to-read route through the building matters beyond the gaming operation.
The project is therefore more than a riverboat business moved onto dry land. Its documented design reorganizes arrival around a hospitality programme with several purposes. The opening date establishes the transition; the architect’s account explains the spatial change. Restaurant lineups and operations can evolve, but the promenade remains the key design idea in the original project record.
