A hotel building can contain several different cultural worlds without making them all part of the same attraction. At Lotte Hotel Busan, the third floor includes Seven Luck Casino, but the hotel also maintains an art programme whose interest lies in materials, light and the time spent looking. The connection is a shared building, not a claim that the artworks are casino decorations.
The hotel’s Seven Luck listing identifies the casino as a foreigners-only venue on the third floor, operating around the clock. The physical address is 772 Gaya-daero, Busanjin-gu, Busan, South Korea. Entry eligibility is separate from access to other hotel facilities and should be checked directly.
Porcelain that responds to light
One work in the hotel’s collection is Jiana Kim’s Iceberg Blue Inside Sky Blue II. The hotel locates it at the third-floor banquet hall and lists porcelain, polyvinyl acetate and stain among its materials. The location matters: the official description does not place it inside the casino.
The accompanying account explains how thin porcelain elements are fired and arranged on a canvas. Their surfaces and contours respond to the direction, intensity and colour of light. The work therefore invites attention to the relationship between a fixed material and changing conditions around it, rather than relying only on a single frontal image.
That is a different rhythm of looking from quickly registering a hotel sign or passing through a lobby. A small movement by the viewer can change which edge catches brightness and which recess reads as shadow. This is an interpretation of the work’s described construction, not a report of a viewing or a claim about the lighting on a particular day.
A collection with more than one timescale
The hotel’s Art Experience page distinguishes its permanent collection from temporary selections and offers QR-code interpretation. Some exhibitions listed there have dates that have already passed, so an archived programme should not be treated as a promise of what is currently on display.
The permanent collection provides a more durable way to read the building: as a place where hospitality and art occupy overlapping routes. For Seven Luck Busan’s wider setting, that is the revealing detail. The same address can support a casino, banqueting and a quieter encounter with ceramic form, without those activities becoming interchangeable.
