A convention resort is often described through its largest interior: the ballroom, plenary hall or exhibition space. At The Grand Palm in Gaborone, the outdoor ground offers another way to understand the property. A lake, a marked trail and spaces for gathering create a counterpoint to the scheduled activity inside.
The resort’s official activities page describes a jogging route around the lake and a nature trail marked with arrows. It identifies birds and trees as part of that setting, without providing a species inventory or a measured route length. Those limits matter: this is a landscaped hospitality campus with a nature-oriented walk, not a documented wildlife reserve.
Space between the sessions
The outdoor role is also visible in an event organiser’s own account. The WONCA Africa 2026 venue page identifies the Gaborone International Convention Centre at The Grand Palm and describes plans to use the gardens for some tea breaks and early-evening events. That is evidence of intended programming, not a retrospective claim that every proposed gathering took place.
The distinction is useful because gardens can be more than scenery around a meeting venue. A break outside changes the arrangement of a group: people can move, form smaller conversations and return without the formal orientation of an auditorium. Whether that works on a particular day still depends on weather, shade, surfaces and the distance from the meeting room.
The Grand Palm also describes its Boma as an open-air banqueting venue beside the lake, at the far end of the complex. In the operator’s account, the same broader landscape therefore accommodates both an informal walking route and a deliberately organised gathering. Neither description establishes unrestricted public access or guarantees that a space will be available without a booking.
A shared landscape, distinct activities
The casino’s current operating page confirms the physical venue and gives the resort address as the corner of Bonnington Farm and Molepolole Road, Gaborone, Botswana. Its published casino hours should not be read as the opening hours of the trail or every outdoor facility.
The lake is the connecting idea rather than a promise of a particular experience. It helps explain how a hotel, casino and convention destination can contain quieter intervals alongside formal events. At The Grand Palm, the spaces between buildings are part of the property’s programme, not simply the distance one crosses to reach it.
