Niederbronn’s 2026 Centenary Connected the Casino to the Town’s Water Story

Niederbronn-les-Bains marked its spa-town centenary with a programme that spread into public space. From 19 to 21 June 2026, the municipality and its partners connected music, dancing, historic vehicles and thermal-site visits around a shared theme of water and the 1920s.

The town’s official account dates its hydromineral-resort classification to a ministerial order of 7 July 1926. It says that status enabled the opening of Alsace’s first casino in the same year. The centenary thus linked a civic designation with the development of leisure infrastructure.

The casino park as a festival setting

Casino Barrière joined Valvital, Celtic mineral water and the Alsace Verte tourism office as partners. The advertised programme turned the casino park into an outdoor guinguette with concerts, dancing, picnic space and refreshments. A water tunnel was placed at the Place des Thermes, while visitors could explore the thermal installations. The municipal page now includes retrospective photographs as well as the original programme.

The distinction between the spa classification and a casino anniversary matters. The celebration’s organising story was broader than a gaming business reaching a particular age. Water, public health history, commercial hospitality and outdoor sociability were presented together.

The Northern Vosges regional park’s venue entry locates the casino in a tree-filled park in the town centre and notes its 2015 renovation. That setting helps explain how a casino property could contribute outdoor space to a municipal celebration, rather than serving only as an indoor destination.

The June event has finished. Its value now is as a documented example of how a resort town interpreted its own history through several connected places. The park offered room for gathering, the square made water visible as a spectacle, and the thermal visits brought the anniversary back to its underlying infrastructure. Those relationships give the casino a specific place in the town’s cultural geography.
