Grand Casino Baden’s October Building Update Shows the Scale of Its Renovation

Construction update | Sources checked 5 November 2026.

Grand Casino Baden has reached a visibly disruptive stage in its renovation. An entry dated 22 October in the operator’s construction diary says the casino interior has been completely stripped out. The September update describes raised side stairwells and large steel beams forming the new foyer. Together, these reports show a project reaching into the building’s structure and circulation, well beyond a change of decoration.

The investment was set out in a 25 March 2026 project announcement: CHF25 million, with roughly two-thirds allocated to the infrastructure of the approximately 150-year-old Kursaal. The remaining share covers architectural modernisation and usable interiors. That spending split makes the less visible work central to the project. A historic entertainment building needs serviceable infrastructure as much as an attractive public face.

A temporary operation with permanent obligations

The business has continued through an adjoining temporary arrangement. Its 1 July opening announcement describes eleven containers connected to the former Club COCO, together with reused indoor rooms. The operator reported a smaller machine inventory during this phase and said the arrangement was intended to preserve operations and jobs while the main rooms were rebuilt.

Temporary construction also required a full operating framework. According to the same announcement, the Swiss Federal Gaming Board inspected the pop-up over two days before approving operations. Identification, minimum-age checks, camera coverage, player protection and anti-money-laundering controls remained requirements. The practical challenge was to move a regulated workplace into a different layout while retaining those controls.

Reading the programme in stages

The July release placed work on the former main gaming rooms between July 2026 and August 2027. The wider March project statement gives 2028 as the completion year. Those dates describe different published scopes; neither should be converted into a promise that every part of the renewed complex will open together in August 2027.

For the present phase, the operator directs arrivals through the former COCO entrance. Its dated diary is particularly useful because it connects the long-term investment announcement to work actually reported on site. The latest entries document demolition and structural progress, while the opening notice explains how the business is functioning alongside it. The property remains listed at Haselstrasse 2 in Baden, Switzerland. See the Grand Casino Baden directory record for the property reference.
