Resorts World Genting: the property and its location
Property and location research updated 26 October 2026.
A mountain resort with several centres
Resorts World Genting is not a single casino hotel with a few surrounding attractions. It is a collection of hotels, entertainment spaces and visitor facilities spread through Genting Highlands in Pahang, Malaysia. First World Hotel illustrates the scale: its official page lists 7,351 rooms and places it close to First World Plaza, SkyAvenue, Skytropolis and the Genting International Convention Centre. For anyone planning a visit, the practical question is therefore which part of the resort they intend to use. A hotel near the hilltop entertainment buildings offers a different base from accommodation farther down the slopes. Casino facilities are one component of this larger destination, rather than a description of everything the resort provides.

Arriving above the forest
Awana SkyWay makes the resort’s vertical geography particularly clear. The operator describes a 2.8 kilometre route from Sky Sentral at the middle of the hill to the hilltop station within SkyAvenue, rising 620 metres. The advertised journey is about ten minutes, which describes time in transit rather than a guarantee including queues and boarding. Chin Swee is the intermediate station, allowing passengers to break their journey for the temple. Drivers can use the car park adjoining Sky Sentral and continue by gondola instead of driving all the way to their hilltop destination. Standard cabins provide wheelchair and stroller access, according to the operator, while glass floor cabins have different access limitations. Travellers needing assistance should establish the appropriate cabin arrangement before joining a queue.

Indoor entertainment at First World Plaza
Skytropolis occupies more than 400,000 square feet at First World Plaza, beside SkyAvenue. The official description lists over twenty rides, with family, adventure and thrill categories. Its indoor setting distinguishes it from the outdoor theme park: the two names should not be treated as interchangeable attractions. The ride list ranges from a Ferris wheel and suspended rides to faster moving attractions, with individual height requirements. A published park map is useful because suitability depends on the particular ride, not simply on admission to the building. The operator also maintains a temporary closure list. At the research date, that list included Super Glider and The Bolt as unavailable, so older promotional photographs should not be taken as confirmation that every attraction is operating.

The separate outdoor theme park
Genting SkyWorlds is organised into themed areas including Studio Plaza, Eagle Mountain, Central Park, Rio, Andromeda Base, Liberty Lane, Epic, Robots Rivet Town and Ice Age. These names describe the park’s creative settings rather than separate towns within the highlands. Its official visitor information provides a downloadable map and explains its Virtual Queue system, making advance orientation more useful than arriving with only a list of ride names. The park and the wider resort have separate practical requirements: a hotel stay does not by itself describe admission arrangements, ride availability or an individual attraction’s restrictions. Travellers can use the park’s own information to decide how much of their visit to devote to this distinct part of Genting.

A different atmosphere at Awana
Resorts World Awana introduces another side of the destination. Set lower on the mountain at an advertised elevation of 3,100 feet, it centres its offering on greenery, an eighteen hole golf course and access to outdoor activities. AYU Awana combines a restaurant with a poolside lounge, contrasting with the dense indoor entertainment environment uphill. The hotel also identifies a shuttle connection to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets. Conditions should be read alongside the attractive landscape description: on 26 October 2026, its official page reported ongoing construction and a Sports Centre closure scheduled through 14 December 2026. Those notices do not mean the entire hotel is closed, but they are material when selecting it for particular facilities or expecting an undisturbed setting.

Learning about the highland environment
Genting Nature Adventures offers guided experiences focused on the surrounding forest. Its stated approach combines walks with learning about native plants, wildlife and ecological relationships, rather than presenting the forest solely as scenery from a cable car. The published options include the two kilometre one way Awana Trail and the six kilometre return Clearwater Way. Those distances are useful for distinguishing the experiences; they do not establish that every visitor will find either route easy. The operator also lists a night safari and programmes for groups. Weather, advance arrangements and the nature of the activity affect participation. This programme gives the resort a connection to its mountain environment that differs substantially from shopping, performance venues and indoor amusement rides.

The temple’s long construction story
Chin Swee Caves Temple has its own history, not merely a role as a cable car stop. The temple society records that Genting founder Lim Goh Tong decided to build it in 1975 and contributed twenty eight acres of land. Construction on steep, rocky ground required substantial manual work, and the society describes an eighteen year building process. The temple officially opened on 29 March 1994. These dates distinguish the initial decision from completion, a useful detail when accounts loosely describe the temple as dating from the resort’s earliest years. Its development also shows how religious and community projects became part of the highland landscape alongside commercial hospitality. Visitors should approach it as an active religious setting rather than another theme park attraction.

Cultural additions in 2026
A dated announcement on 22 February 2026 documented additions to the temple precinct. The new galleria at Sky Terrace uses displays, artefacts and archival material to explain the deity’s origins and the temple’s development. A glazed glass lotus installation stands before the large Buddha statue, combining water and lighting with Buddhist symbolism. Beneath it, Kimhua Hall provides space intended for meditation, exhibitions and community gatherings. Its interior retains exposed natural rock, connecting the architecture to the steep terrain that shaped the temple’s construction. These additions offer a more specific reason to explore the temple than a generic promise of mountain views, while keeping its cultural purpose distinct from the resort’s commercial entertainment.

Recognising the temple landmarks
The resort’s temple guide identifies a nine storey pagoda, the open air Sky Terrace and a Buddha statue fifteen metres tall among the principal landmarks. These features provide useful visual orientation within the grounds, where the built spaces and the surrounding mountain slopes are part of the same setting.

Kevin Y on Tripadvisor
Kevin Y liked Crockfords’ location and spacious room but found it costly and was frustrated by the distance to the pool and gym. This reflects one hotel within Resorts World Genting, not every part of the complex.
